These ponytail holders cause breakage!

I went to one of the dollar stores (a privately owned one) the other day to pick up a few things, while I was there I saw some ponytail holders for $1 per pack. They had a bunch of colors, packs with pink/red/white, packs of all black, all white, and packs of black and white. I bought two packs of black and white, you can never have enough ponytail holders, right? These caused some major breakage! I guess it's the material, not exactly sure but I could hear major breakage and snags, especially at the ends. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you the brand of these because I ripped the package open and threw most of it away. I took a few pictures though to give you an idea of what the package looks like. Next time I'm at the store I'll take a picture to show the brand and everything else. Hopefully this helps someone. I'll definitely be sticking with my Goody ponytail holders from now on.

Ripped open package

Breakage!

Little animals, planes, music instruments around the package.

FYI: These are the ones I faithfully use from Goody. I bought all of them from Walmart, around $2 each. I LOVE them. They are easy on the hair, and don't lose their shape.

  5. Have you ever used those elastic ones that kind of feel like plastic rubber bands?? I did the other day and I guess the coconut oil made them weak and they all broke, while her hair was in her style! Lets just say I wasn't too happy. But thanks for the info ma'am!

  9. Yes they do. I used those and the first time I used them is when I noticed it. At that time I was like man it's alot in that package for a buck ... I can just cut them off every time. If I look back and count the many times I purchased these I would have been better off buying expensive ones. I guess the saying "You Get What You Pay For", is the truth...

  11. Do you have any suggestions for holders for very small amounts of hair? My daughter is gonna be 2 and she (like her mother) is growing hair very slowly. I know she'll have a mass of it in the next couple of years but for now we're having a really hard time finding anything to hold. The rubber (or non rubber) elastics break almost immediately if not in a day's time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  12. I totally agree on these "ridged" ones. Stay away!!! I found some made from bamboo at my local dollar store, and they look the same as the goody brand, and are very similar- no breakage. Hope that helps.

  13. I bought the EXACT same ridged ones for our DD,because I thought they were soft (i.e. perfect for no breakage) WRONG. I did some bantu knots and secured with these. What a nightmare. They had worked themselves into her hair and it was like they had teeth! I'm glad to hear someone else hates these things. Ours was dollar store too.

  14. I hate those pony tail holders as well. I have a bag of them and never use them exactly because of that. My little one cries every single time we I have to take them out. I too stick with the Goody holders.

  15. I bought these too in pink. I thought I had a good deal since they were $1 a pack. I even soaked them in olive oil & they did a NUMBER on my daughters' hair. They got tangled in there, pulled & broke their hair & I threw them all out. I was disgusted.

I haven't tried the alternative that you showed though. I'm going to check those out too.
