First relaxer at 9 months old

I got permission from sistersnaturally to post this video.

This is a video showing you how damaging a relaxer, especially at such a young age can be. This adorable little girl (towards the end of the video) got her first relaxer at 9 months old from someone other than her mother. She has a little hair in the back, a bald spot in the middle of her head, and straight hair on the top.

Please rate this video. By doing so you will get the word out.

Personally, watching this mad me very sad. I felt sick to my stomach when I saw her bald spot and kept holding my face. I feel so bad for that little girl and her self esteem. Kids can be really cruel.

  1. A relaxer at 9 months?! Thats a baby! That is so sad and crazy! What was the person thinking about ?!

  2. That makes me really sad to see that. I don't think that kids (or adults, really...but then again, they're grown) should get relaxers in their hair...but a 9 MONTH OLD BABY?!?! 1st of all, the mom should have had the person who DID do the relaxer charged w/ some type of crime...that is if 'someone else' really did it & not the mom...and 2nd, why did the mom continue to put relaxers on that baby's hair...I'm thinking about the soft spot & the developing brain & I'm just hurting...and looking at her scratching that bald spot...like at what point was the mom going to say 'enough is enough'

and I agree with the Vlogger who said that kids aren't getting a chance to know what their natural hair even looks or feels like before someone is relaxing it....

I feel like if you're an adult & know the effects of a relaxer on your hair, it's your decision to keep on doing it...to your OWN hair...but subjecting your kids to that is wrong IMO.

  3. It makes me so mad. I think it is child abuse to put a relaxer in a child's hair, especially a baby, WTF. The other day I saw a little girl who was about six. Her hair was done up for easter, but she didn't have any hair around her ears and temples. It made me so sad for her.

People are trying so hard to conform to the wrong standard of beauty that they are destroying their beautiful children and their children's beautiful hair.

I have two little girls one 5 months and the other almost four years. If someone was to put a relaxer in my children's hair, then they are asking for a fight.

  4. This is terrible. Poor baby!

    I agree it's child abuse.

  5. That is terrible. It makes me ill. I am raising my daughter to know how to love and care for her NATURAL hair. If anyone ever relaxed her hair, so help me.

  6. OMG!! I'm so sad. When I saw that little girl's bald spot, I almost cried. If that was daughter, I'd cut all her hair off and stop putting relaxers in her hair. 9 months old!!! Are you serious?!? What would possess a person to do that to a baby? Would you put arsenic in a baby's milk? Heck No!! So why would you put equivalent chemicals so close to a baby's brain? I better stop - I'm so mad.
    That poor baby.

  7. That is so horrible. That made me so angry. I feel so sorry for that little girl. A relaxer 9 months old??

Why didn't the mom call the authorities on the "baby sitter" (yeah right) who put the relaxer in? Why didn't the mom cut her hair and start it over instead of relaxing it over and over again?? She was only 9 months old and by the time she was 2 her hair and scalp would have probably been able to heal and regrow.

My mom relaxed my hair when I was 11, and it broke my hair off in the back to severely that I couldn't braid the hair in the back for about 5 years (I was teased to badly that I didn't want to go to school and even hated myself). If my 11 year old hair couldn't take a relaxer, I can only imagine the problems it has caused to this baby.

The sad part is I can bet you $100 that this mom will wait for it to grow back for 3-7 years, and after it has grown 2 inches, she'll put another relaxer in it (or burn it out with a pressing comb).

  8. There is no question that is child abuse. The pain that must have caused, both physical and psychological, is heart-breaking. Poor baby.

  9. that is just sad!! 9 months old!!! that's just ridiculous to be relaxing a 9 month old girls hair. I hope this video gets out there for others to see

  11. this is truly disgusting. I have tears in my eyes right now. i feel sooo bad for this child who has no control over what was done to her. I also feel like perming a child's hair before she can WALK OR TALK IS A FORM OF ABUSE!!!

  12. That is so sad! :-(

  13. It makes me sick. I want to take her away. She deserves better. What else is going on in her life if they permed her hair as a baby? And look at the shape of it now. She should be cherished.

  14. She better hope social services dont figure this one out, or should they. That is sick & i dont care if she ( wasn't there) when it happend, that doesn't look like that came from one perm she knows exactly what's going on, she's not fooling anyone. Ok so your daughter's hair maybe a little hard to manage, so you fry & burn your baby's scalp, LEARN HOW TO MANAGE IT!! Thats so sorry, & such a copout & it's child abuse. & if that realy was her father that did that, daddy would have to go, yes i would leave my man if he did something that stupid shame on them. You know, im beginning to think she cant't be in her right mind no way. Only cocoos would do something like that.

  15. It is sad when we force sociaties standards on our children, and we wonder why they have self-esteam issues.cac

  16. That is way to young, poor child. I am against relaxers but if you must, at least wait until the kid is old enough to speak.

  17. I think this is just pure laziness, I know at time it may become overwhelming to comb a childs hair that cries and do not want to get their hair comb and especially when you have more than one head to comb but seriously a perm. I really hate to see a 5 year old with permed hair that is just a shame for a 9 month old suprising it didnt irritate her scalp

  18. Is this a joke? 9 months? You cannot be serious, I hope things turn out better for this little girl.

  19. This is horrible. I was was relaxed at age 3 (without my moms permission)by her cousin who owned a beautyshop. Thankfully it did not have an adverse affect on my thickness and length ( I still get relaxers to this day). But I would never put one on my daughter. The mother should have stopped the relaxer and nursed her hair back.

  20. I can not believe what I just saw. That poor baby!!! All I can think about was Aaliyah at 9months, her hair wasn't even completely in and neither was her texture!! Who would even think that would be ok???? Like someone else said why didn't that mother press charges IF it was really someone else... I sure as hell would've, AND WHY IN THE HELL did this woman KEEP putting stuff on her poor head. Thats almost a cps moment.

  21. THIS MADE ME BEYOND PISSED. I WOULD OF PRESSED CHARGES THEN WHOOPED THE BABYSITTERS ASS. BUT WHATS WORSE IS THAT THE MOTHER STILL PUTTIN RELAXERS IN HER HAIR. LORD HELP ME NOW BEFORE I STEP ON THE BADSIDE WITH MY TONGUE. CUT HER HAIR OFF AND START OVER DONT BE A DUMBASS.

  23. I just started crying because when my little girl was 3 i sent her by her father for easter's break and when i got her back she had a just 4 me text thing put in ! he said my mother did it and she said he or his family did it but it mess up my child's head so i start the process of going natural at the age of 4.

  24. Good God, this is so horrific! I do not believe for a moment that the "mom" (and I use that term loosely) wasn't aware of the babysitter's intention to relax her daughter's hair. I daresay she did it herself! that child is nearly bald, in obvious pain, embarrased of her situation and worse, she is being abused! Only a lazy/self-hating parent would relax a child's hair and only an abusive one would think that 9 months was an appropriate age. Tell me: who exactly was checking for what this child's hair looked like at 9 months?!? This woman is sick and probably more than a little mentally damaged. This is further proof that just because someone can have kids doesn't mean that they should.
