I want to say thank you to DevaCurl for allowing me to review your products.

About Deva

"Botanically infused and always 100% sulfate-free!

Depart from the ordinary with this exclusively designed hair care system for curly, wavy and chemically processed hair. Deva's interchangeable product line allows for individuality, simplicity and the freedom to address your hair's specific needs.

"Americans are addicted to lather" says the tress-obsessed curly girl Lorraine Massey, author of the must have book, Curly Girl (Workman Publishing,2001). Massey warns, "laundering curly hair (which is what most people are doing with ordinary detergent shampoos) just about guarantees a mass of over-dry, frizzy, shapeless locks." That's why Lorraine, along with co-owner Denis daSilva, world-class chemist Ralph Zissel and Devachan's acclaimed Color Director Shari Harbinger developed the Deva product line. This unique system, with it's own unique blend of botanically infused moisturizers and cleansers, will rejuvenate, restore and respect your hair's natural order without the use of harsh chemicals.

What is in the Deva System? The answer is what is NOT in the Deva System. We took the poo out of shampoo, the harsh lathering and dehydrating detergent found in most shampoos that has no inherent value in the cleansing process. We've removed all unnecessary chemicals that often play on hair's vulnerability. We added extra botanical and moisturizing ingredients that cleanse, condition and re-hydrate the hair, more than any products existing on the market today. Each product has it's own unique blend that will enhance the overall quality of dehydrated hair."

My DevaCurl Review's

Price: $17.95 12oz (also available in 32 fl. oz and 3 fl. oz)

Review: DevaCurl recommends using the No-Poo on dry hair for my daughter's hair type. I was not sure how it would turn out. Especially since the day before she had her hair out all day with no product in it. I thought for sure we would face many tangles. I applied the no poo, it is nice and creamy. It had a minty smell to it. I was pleasantly surprised when it allowed me to run my fingers through A's hair. As we rinsed, no bubbles or suds. The smell can be a little over powering. So try not to use too much.

This is A's hair with the No-Poo in.

Review: I applied Heaven in Hair as soon as I rinsed the No-Poo out. I love the smell of this stuff. I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like, but it smells great. It is very thick, so a little goes a long way. It felt amazing going in A's hair. I loved it. After rinsing her hair felt soft & moisturized.

A with Heaven in Hair in.

Here is a picture of Heaven in Hair. See how thick it is?

DevaCurl recommends using Heaven in Hair with a plastic cap. So I put one on A's hair for almost 1 hour. They recommend 15-30 minutes but we got side tracked watching Barbie and the Three Musketeers.

After taking the above pictures, I put a tshirt on A's hair and left it on for a while. I thought I could do that instead of just squeezing excess water out. Bad idea. Her hair was flat on top after I took the tshirt off! However, her curls were very defined, shiny, and moisturized.

The Results

See how it was flat from the tshirt? What did I expect? lol I should have just squeezed the excess water out!

A took a nap yesterday, when she woke up her hair was not frizzy and her curls were still looking great.

  1. Her hair looks great. I have a few questions about the No Poo. How much did you have to use to wash A's hair? Do you think it could clean really dirty hair (ie after using something heavy like shea butter) or is it only suited to cleanish hair?

  2. I tried Deva products and I like the No-Poo and OneCondition. They both make my hair soft and moisturized.

@ Moni- I think it will clean with heavier natural/organic products (maybe not heavily silicone laden products bc it's not really a clarifying poo, more moisturizing in my opinion). You just may have to do say maybe 3 mini-poos/washes for it to come clean. It does take some time to get used to the no-lather portion of the regi.

    Still, My hair likes it.

  3. Oh- to comment on blog...A's hair is VERY pretty after using

But, IMO, DevaCare porducts are not cheap and FOR ME, I can find substitutes that are a little cheaper that work just as well for my hair. (I'm a 3c/4a)
