Braided, Twisted & Rolled: Day 2, 4 and 5 Updates

Guest post from our guest blogger Aisha of Braid with Me

I decided to share a few pictures to let everyone know how Anisa's Braided, Twisted, and Rolled style is holding up. I am pleased to say that it is holding up very well! I've been moisturizing her hair with Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk and Bee Mine Juicy Moisturizing Daily Spritz. I must say that it has been doing a great job! She also wears a satin bonnet at night in addition to her satin pillowcase.
Here are pictures from Day 2.
We were really busy on Day 3 so I didn't get a chance to take pictures.  On Day 4 I decided to leave her twists down instead of rolling them. This gave the style a whole new look!
On Day 5 her twists were rolled and pinned once again. Frizz is visible but I am still pleased with how it looks.
The final variation will be a braid/twist out so stay tuned!!

Braided, Twisted & Rolled + Introducing New Blog: Braid with Me

I am so excited to bring you this post from our guest blogger, Aisha. The style is amazing, of course! No surprise there but you all have been asking and asking if Aisha and Anisa have their own blog, well, I am here to tell you today that they DO!!! :) It is brand spanking new so head on over and show them lots of love! Make sure you follow their blog for more amazing styles like this one. Blog: Braid with Me and be sure to stop by and "like" their Facebook page! Aisha & Anisa have been around Beads, Braids & Beyond for a year or so now so I am very excited to watch their blog grow. :)

Before heading out on a family vacation earlier this month,  I picked up the July issue of Essence magazine. Once everyone was situated on the plane, I began to thumb through the pages when  I saw it! It was the Super Naturals gallery on page 60. Out of the 21 pictures that were featured, my eyes were focused on one in particular. It was a cornrowed, rolled and possibly twisted creation and it was beautiful! I knew that I had to try it!!
I started with clean, detangled, moisturized and stretched hair.  Anisa's hair was moisturized and styled using Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer, Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter and Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk.
Braid with Me
I began by parting her hair into 3 sections - one large section on each side and one thinner section in the middle of her head.
I secured two of the sections with an ouchless band and began braiding one of the larger sections. I made my first cornrow at the nape of her neck. I made a somewhat curved part and began braiding.  I continued the cornrow all the way down, but only on the cornrows at the nape of her neck on each side. I continued cornrowing her hair my making parts of varying widths and curves. The remaining cornrows were formed into two strand twists.
I continued the same steps on the other larger side until that side was complete. Once it was complete I secured the twists with an ouchless band so I could add two strand twists to the middle section.
This is how her hair looked once I was done cornrowing/braiding and twisting.
The next step was to form the rolls or "humps." I began by grabbing a small section in the back and rolling it under. Due to her length, I had to roll her hair around itself several times. I secured the roll with a hair pin.   I continued by grabbing sections, rolling them, and pinning them into place. One thing that  I found useful was to secrue the rolls to each other. So lets say that the first roll is Roll A and the next roll I made is that I made is Roll B. Once Roll B was formed,  I pinned it to Roll A, Roll C was pinned to Roll B and so forth. Once I was done, I'd formed a total of 6 rolled sections. Keep in mind that each "section" contained more than one roll due to her length.
The results!!

I really love this style!! We had to go the grocery store shortly after I finished this style and she received several compliments.
Night Routine:
At night I will remove her pins and moisturize her hair using Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk. My alternative moisturizer will be the Bee Mine Juicy Moisturizing Daily Spritz. She will wear a satin bonnet that ties around her head. She also uses a satin pillowcase.
Outfit:
I found the Barbie shirt on the Hot Topic website. It is actually a junior's size XS. I added the belt to change up the look. The leggings are from The Children's Place and the sandals are from Gap.

Fun Hair In 5 Minutes - Textured Faux Hawk

Ponytail holders: $3 Bobbypins : $2 The look on her face: Priceless

A has been wanting a faux hawk after seeing them on here and on my little brother so I went ahead and gave her one today. This style was super easy. Her hair was already curly from yesterday so I spritzed her hair with water and used 3 ouchless ponytail holders to make 3 ponytails going down the middle of her head. I didn't part the hair, just grabbed with my fingers, but if you want a more sleek look use a metal rat tail comb to part. After putting her hair in 3 ponytails, I grabbed one section at a time, folded the entire section to the right and pinned the hair down with bobbypins. I did this to all three sections. That's it! Fun hair in 5 minutes. ;)

Check out her expression. This is her "cool face". She loved it.

Spin on Asian Inspired Mohawk (by Baby Big Hair)

I asked Chloe of Baby Big Hair to share this adorable style as a guest post, check it out:

New fav style inspired by blogger Journey to My Roots (J2MR). Please see the simple, easy-peasy Asian Inspired Mohawk posted at the end of this post tutorial below and here. She initially posted this as a switch up style to her Mohawk tutorial. When I saw this I knew I had to try it; just too gorgeous and simple! This style is great for stretching out washings a day or two, or pre-pooing all day long. For a quick run down of how we achieved this look, I first parted BBH’s hair in large sections ear to ear (4 large and small triangle like shape in the very front for twisted bangs) and banded each section with an ouchless band. Then I twisted the “bangs” in front and let those set while I did the buns. Because we were on the way to the library (can you tell by the crooked part? LOL!), I deviated from the video just a bit by taking each large banded section, and twisting them into 1 or 2 large twists (depending on how “big” her hair was in each section) and pinning them under as J2MR did in her tutorial. This gives you big, thick, chunky buns but with a quasi-rose bud (make sense?) effect. Cleary, J2MR’s tutorial came out with much smoother buns with that asian flair which I LOVE, but I like our BIG HAIR version too:)

Not only is this fun and different, but J2MR and I were chatting about how beautiful this would look with flowers or baby’s breath along the side or between buns. Can you say flower girl hair (WHAT?!?!). This is also a super cute done with mini/small twists (trust, I have pics forthcoming). Go’Head Baby!!

Cornrowed Braid-out Faux Hawk

After A wore this style for a few days I contemplated on adding beads or curling the braids. Instead, I simply removed the middle braids with the end of a pin tail comb for a braid out. She had 3 braids hanging on each side in the front so I gathered 3 on each side and twisted them back, I used bobbypins to secure the braids. This created a faux hawk look. She loved the results! This is a fun look for both younger and older girls. You can add a little flair by accessorizing with bows, ribbon or a headband.

After looking at the pictures I think I should have taken out a few cornrows on the right for a side bang. Maybe someone else can try it? I'd love to see pictures if you do. You can post them over on our new Facebook Fan Page!

Frohawks & Twists

Guest blogger, Aisha, shares a quick and simple 'do!

(The pics with the yellow shirt were from the first night)

The Mohawk happened with me just playing around. I'd just finished washing/conditioning her hair with Bee Mine Bee Nourished Ayurvedic Herbal Shampoo Bar and HEHH. I tied a t-shirt around her head to dry it a bit and took it off with the intention of doing a bunch of twists. I got lazy and decided to just put it in a puff. While gathering the hair for the puff I decided to see how it would look in a mohawk. I gathered her hair into three separated ponytails, all secured in the center of her head. The back part of her hair was left down. I grabbed section of hair from the front and did a simple two-strand twist and added 3 wooden beads.
The following day (Saturday) I gathered her hair into 4 separated ponytails. The back section was secured this time. The front ponytail was twisted into several two strand twists to give it a different look.

The next day (Sunday), I moisturized and detangled her hair for a new cornrowed/twisted protective style. Stay tuned for that style!

  • Spray with Bee Mine Juicy Spirtz each night.
  • Use Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk on ponies to refresh and moisturize.
  • Also use Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk to moisturize nape & edges.

Step-by-Step PonyHawk Tutorial

Photobucket

Photobucket

Instructions:
  1. Start with clean detangled hair. I cowashed Anisa’s hair with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner the day before doing this style. I applied Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer after rinsing and detangling her hair. I put her hair into several large plaits to let it dry. Before starting her hair, I removed the plaits and banded her hair for about an hour to stretch it some more.
  2. Photobucket
  3. I removed the bands and parted her hair into two sections.
  4. Photobucket
  5. I secured one side with a Goody’s Ouchless band and made my first part on the opposite side. The part was made at the nape. I secured the rest of her hair with another ouchless band and began braiding. The braids should go towards the part that is in the middle. I used Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer while braiding her hair.
  6. Photobucket
  7. Continue to make parts in any design that you choose and braid.
  8. Photobucket
  9. I continued to make parts and braid her hair. I went ahead and released the hair on that side and made a part at the top for one of her ponytails. You can do this before you start braiding if you wish. I secured the hair for the ponytail with another ouchless band and continued to braid her hair.
  10. Photobucket Photobucket
  11. I finished braiding her hair on that side and I went ahead and made one of the ponytails just to show you how it will look. You do not have to make your ponytails at this point.
  12. Photobucket
  13. Now you can begin braiding the other side. Begin by once again parting the hair at the nape. I like for the braids on both sides to line up but that is up to you. If you cannot get the braids to line up exactly, don’t worry about it! It will be covered by the ponytails.
  14. Photobucket
  15. I continued to make my parts and braid her hair. You will continue to do this until you are done braiding that side. I chose to braid Anisa’s hair almost all the way down. You do not have to do this. I did it to stretch her hair out some more. You can make your second ponytail in the front at this point.
  16. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
  17. I began to section her braids to make the ponyhawk. The first time I did this style, I used rubberbands. This time I chose to use ouchless bands instead. Nikki likes to soak her rubberbands in olive oil prior to using them on A’s hair. So if you are using rubberbands, you may want to do this. I made a total of 16 cornrows – 8 on each side. I gathered 4 braids (2 braids from each side) in order to make one ponytail. I ended up with 4 ponytails in all.
  18. Photobucket
  19. My next step was to unravel her braids in order to make the ponytails. I made 2 two-strand twists in each section so she ended up with 8 two-strand twists in all. I applied Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter to her hair prior to making each ponytail.
  20. Photobucket Photobucket
  21. I secured her front ponytails with black ouchless bands and the ponyhawk ponytails were secured with dark pink and light pink bands. I finished off with pink barrettes and a pink bow twisty on each of the front ponytails. The twisties were on top of the black ouchless bands.

Total time: 1 – 1.5 hours (Keep in mind that I am stopping to take pictures while I am braiding so it probably won’t take you as long).
