How NOT to Do A Ponytail

Sigh. It was a little difficult to watch but I cringed when I saw one of those large rubberbands being tightly wrapped around the hair.

Thoughts?

  1. im sorry if i have to use that much product in my child's hair, I will not purchase that. If it's suppose to be so good why did she have to pull his hair so tight. Did you see her clean the comb with his hair that she yanked out of his head. Not to mention the many time she brushed his hair. Thats why I refuse to allow some stranger do my childs hair because everyone won't be as gentle as I am with Princess scalp.

  2. My daughter would be bald if i brushed and pull like that. You can just see the kid's head go back and forth, too much force.

  3. 1) He looked SO uncomfortable and even in pain at one point. I mean, she was pulling so hard to get that ponytail tight, and she wrapped that thing so tightly.
    2) How many times did she have to apply the products to get the desired result? That was just too much.
    3) She was raking through his precious hair with that comb and brush.
    4) Poor baby.

  4. Wow what a process. Poor little guy. I cringed when I saw that big ol' rubberband too and when she was grabbing and pulling at his ends :O

  5. Wow! It does not take all that to do a ponytail.

  6. 1. Were the first two people we saw some sort of hair dommes? THEY ARE GOING TO BEAT YOUR HAIR INTO SUBMISSION.. UNTIL IT IS A GOOD HAIR!!!
    2. That poor boy.

  7. So why does his hair have to be bone straight. I mean the poor kid. And she was so rough with him.

  8. They made a simple ponytail too darn complicated. I mean all that product and all that "smoothing" with her hands and then brushing??? No too much. If she could have ripped his hair off with her hands she would have lol. He probably had a headache, too much product and too much tension. I got lost after awhile, it was too many different (or at least it seemed like it) products you have to use. I about passed out with she pulled out that big industrial rubber band : /

  9. If it takes all of that to get a nice clean ponytail then I guess my hair will just be flying everywhere! First of all, that was way too much product, second she was not gentle with his hair at all and third, the rubber band that she used was ridiculous and seriously uncalled for! I'm sure that IF either one of them worked at an ACTUAL HAIR SALON they had at least a scrunchy.

  10. Yeah, I have a headache just watching that, and I only skimmed the video. First of all, making ONE ponytail shouldn't even fill up an almost 10 minute video! All that pulling. She nearly pulled his face into the back of his head. Ugh, MY head hurts. Poor kid. Not necessary.

  11. All that for a ponytail??? No thank you!

I just wanna give that baby a hug!

  12. Omg, yeah..that gives me a headache too, that poor child :/

  13. it took her like 30 mins to do a simple ponytail AND she didn't have to do all that to get those results. eco styler gel is much better and you don't have to do all of that brushing and pulling.

  14. One question: how dang flat did she want the ponytail to be?? Shoot, if the little hairs lie down even remotely nice on my daughter's hair, I'm a happy woman! lol and was the trimming of the hairline at all necessary?? And why did he keep saying things like, "Silky, beautiful, straight..." etc...? As if it's only beautiful if it's straight? His hair was beautiful before she even began to lay her Hulk arms on it! Poor little boy :/

  15. That boy's hairline is going to disappear very shortly. Oh dear

  16. Wow! BBD Glass was all the rage about 10 years ago on the hair boards. The owner was a joke with his "Ready for the World" hair and clothes (am I telling my age?) LOL.

I was disturbed by all the pulling and the emphasis on making it "silky, beautiful, and straight (relaxed without a relaxer). Yikes, what's wrong with a little fuzz/curl around the edges? It looks much more natural. And to then edge it up? NOT A GOOD LOOK.

Plus, did you see the stylist's arms? Poor child was scared to move even though you could see the pain all up in his eyes!

  17. wow. a 10 minute video on how to rip your kids hair from their scalp?! LOL. you could tell he was in some pain from the way he was scrunchin his neck into his shoulders, cause i know i do that when my hair is being pulled. ALL that product? in all my years of doin a ponytail i have never used more than 1 product. that was overkill. and don't even get me started on that big ol rubberband that she twisted twice around her hand before giving him a facelift with it. i don't think bbd king products will be in our future. lol i almost have to laugh because i can't believe it's serious!

  18. Thank chick was too darn rough on his head!! And her looked so sad!

  19. All I Have To Say Is I would Not Buy That Product .

  20. I don't know ... first off, let me say that the rubberband made me shut my eyes.

But the little boy's hair was beautiful and healthy. I don't think the stylist was particularly rough with it. When I saw the size of that comb, I was afraid, but she did start detangling from the ends and didn't seem too harsh.

What I was thinking is that this might be a good alternative for parents who are regularly pressing or flat-ironing their kids hair. If they want the straight look, at least this is a way they could get that without using heat.

By the way, I have 2 girls and I don't blow dry, flat iron or press their hair - all natural over here! I guess I was slightly drawn to the video b/c I do struggle with making smooth, shiny ponytails for my younger daughter's 4a/4b hair. Hey, maybe you could do a tutorial on that for BBB? :)

  21. The sad thing is that this man might actually shift a few of these bottles in purchases! What a load of rubbish!!!!

  22. SHM. Why does a pony have to be smooth? I only make my daughter's as smooth as I can get it with a water bottle and whatever conditioner is my current favorite. No brush ever. A little fuzz around the hairline when I'm done, oh well! At least I'm not risking traction alopecia.

  23. OMG....3 things:

    1) Notice the bicep action of the brush wielder
    2) Creepy Narrator
    3) Kid probably needed some Excedrin at the end of that experience

My hair gave me the side eye like *puhlease* I wish you would......

  24. This poor child look like he was so uncomfortable. I agree with one poster who said that he looked like he was in pain. That rubber band made me cringe too.

  25. Wow!! Way too many products!! That poor kid!

  26. Wow! He is up there talking about "pulling and taunting, pulling and taunting." She is pulling that poor baby's brains out. He looks traumatized for sure. And what's all that purple, pink and orange goop she putting all in his hair?! Way too much just to get a ponytail! No thank you!

  27. I'm sorry, I laughed when I saw this video. Not because it was funny, but because it was sad. SO many questions, but top two= WHY did they have to use a CHILD, and WHY did they put so many products in his hair? The poor kid.

  28. I don't understand why people believe that naturally curly hair has to be pulled so tight with that thick rubber band. That rubber band remind me of the collard greens my grandmother used to get from the market (it used to have those thick bands on them)...I am so glad I love my kids hair enough to take proper care of it. They need to take this video down with all these products that is used on a child. Creme for this, creme for that, creme all this "good hair" wow....
