Day 10: Removed cornrows for the crinkly effect.

Day 12: Two ponytails

Day 13: I decided to start taking her braids out. Since I made her box braids kind of small, it will take awhile to take them down completely. I removed the braids in the front and decided to do cornrows.

  1. Those styles are cute. I would love to do box braids on my daughter's hair, but styles like that do not last long on her hair. Do you have any tips on how to make braid styles last longer than a couple of days.

  3. Love it! Takes me back to when my teenager was a little girl. Box braids aka singles are so versatile and last a long time.

  5. I did 75 micro braids in our daughter's hair - and just today finally got them all out (about three weeks later). I agree takes a LONG time to take them out. QUESTION - hoq do you curl up the box braids?? Zari would love that! Thanks!

  9. Love it, Aisha! I like how you stretched the style to the maximum amount of time yet still had it looking fresh, neat, and stylish. My daughter's styles absolutely cannot last this long. I'm not sure if it is the products that I use, my braiding tecnique, or because her hair is very soft, but her styles only last 1 week at the most, and by the weekend, it looks fuzzy.

  12. Gorgeous braids! Box braids are one of my favorite styles for my five year old daughter. I'm experimenting with twists now, much easier/faster to put in, but they tend to come out dull looking in her hair.

    Anyhow, thanks for sharing!

  14. I love these ideas! Especially curling the braids. I have always wondered about doing that? is there any special trick to it or do you just use a curling iron or curlers or what? I often do single braids and let her wear them down a few days then put them up into pony tails or a bun or something for another few days too. Her hair tends to last about 3 weeks looking nice and if i want to be lazy it can last to the 4th week but i'd better not plan any pictures or major events for that fourth week because by then it's looking way frizzed out! do share your secrets for keeping it looking smooth in the front though, my daughter always ends up with a few little frizzies in the front after a few weeks.

  16. Thanks everyone!! I used satin covered sponge rollers and Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter to achieve her curls. I found the rollers at walmart. At the end of day 8 I cleansed her hair with Deva Curl No Poo Cleanser, applied coconut oil and made the big cornrows. When I removed the cornrows her braids had the crinkly look that you see in the day 10 pic. I hope this helps!! :-)

  17. I love the versatility with the box braids. I will definitely be incorporating some of these the next time I put them in my daughter's hair. The bun is super cute - is that a sock bun?

  18. Very nice. I am praying that my baby's hair gets to that length soon. She is still 18 months and has no hair at the back. But I continue to deep condition and moisturise. Your angel's hair is FANTASTIC. Thanx for sharing!!!!
