Braids Tutorial:
Start with clean detangled hair. I washed/conditioned Anisa’s hair the previous day using HEHH. I banded her hair for bedtime. I used Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer, Bee Hold Curly Butter, and Deja’s Hair Milk for this style.
- When I began this style, Anisa’s hair was still a little damp and not as stretched as I normally prefer. That was okay because I wanted a big puff. I began braiding her hair in the back and secured the rest of her hair with an ouchless band. You will begin your braid on one side and continue the braid to the opposite side. For instance, if you start you braid on the right side, you will continue the braid all the way to the left side. You do not have to complete the braid because the end result is a big puff.
- Continue braiding from one side to the other in your own preferred style. I used plastic clips to keep the extra hair from the braids out of the way.
- Continue braiding the hair, adding the luscious balanced cream moisturizer and curly hold butter as you go. I should add that I did not use the hair milk on her braids. I only used it on her puff.
- I ended up with 18 cornrows/braids in all. I divided Anisa’s cornrows/braids into 3 sections (6 braids each) and secured each section with an ouchless band. I used purple ouchless bands to match her outfit. Having 3 separate sections will result in a larger puff.
- Once she had her outfit on, I added 2 purple curly clips. One clip was placed on top of the middle section, and the other clip was placed on top of the front section. I applied a little bit of the Deja’s Hair Milk to her puffs, fluffed, and I was done!! (Anisa’s top is from Old Navy. It was on sale ($8) when I bought it but its regular price now - $10.50. It matches the purple and white Jordan’s perfectly!)
- Maintaining this style: I will moisturize Anisa’s hair as needed, especially at night, with the Bee Mine products. I will use a spray bottle with water to wet her puff so I can detangle it if needed. I will apply the Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer or Deja’s Hair Milk and create a 2-strand twist for each of the 3 sections. I will use Bee Mine Juicy Moisturizing Daily Spritz on her braids. She will sleep with a satin bonnet. In the morning, I will unravel the twists and fluff. I will moisturize as needed. This style could last for about a week with proper care.

Aaw! Very cute! She has gorgeous hair. Great job momma!
ReplyDeleteLove it! This is definitely going to be Messyah's back to school 'do. Thanks Aisha:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little girl, and I love the style!!! I don't have children, but I may try a version of it on myself, since I'm currently transitioning my own hair.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome site full of loads of ideas/ tips for maintaining not only the hair of little girls, but older ones too! Keep up the great work!
Gorgeous style!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You did a great job and it's a simple style...love it.
ReplyDeleteWhen you use the hold curly butter is it sticky ? The reason I'm asking is.. I don't use any holding cream or butter when I braid my boys hair and everyone is telling me it makes a difference with braids...the cream helps the braids hold in place and last longer? I'm just afraid to using anything that says holding on their hair. So I just moisturize then braid. Thanks
Such a cute style for little girls
ReplyDeleteGreat style! Love that big puff! She has beautiful hair.
ReplyDeleteThat is really nice...she looks gorgeous as usual...Great Job Mama
ReplyDeleteSHE IS SO CUTE AND HER HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL..LOVE IT... ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great style. I am going to try this on both of my little girls this week!
ReplyDeleteAnother inspirational style. Please keep them coming!!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDelete@ Dimples - The butter doesn't make her hair sticky at all. I sometimes use unrefined shea butter instead of the Bee Mine butter. I like how both products "coat" each strand of hair. For me it results in a neater, somewhat glossier looking braid. I hope this makes sense.
So cute, great job!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add: I love those flower clips!!
ReplyDeleteI really like this style. Thanks Aisha!!!!
ReplyDeletep.s. I noticed and LOVE the Hello Kitty Wii remote lol
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!... I love this style!
ReplyDelete@ Aisha, Thanks so much. I also have to read the ingredients of evry hair product I pick up and buy because I have two sons that are allergic to nuts..one to coconut which I hear is great for the hair and the other one peanuts. Just so I don't get mixed up and end up taking someone to the hospital for a shot I just don't buy anything that states any type of nut ingredient.I'll try one of the two and since they want braids mixed with twists I might try it on their twist as well...two weeks from now. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI love this and definitely will be copying it! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLike this style! Never thought to make a giant puff out of seperate ponys. But, my daughters don't have thick hair, just very long hair, so their puffs likely won't get big even with the seperate pony technique. Won't hurt to try it for a bit of extra volume tho.
ReplyDeleteWon't let my girls see the Hello Kitty Wii remote. They came back from Hawaii with way too manyHello Kitty stuffs thanks to the HK store there, and as much as I loved HK back in the day, I am so HK'ed played out right now, lol.
love this post!
ReplyDeleteI like this style it my DD hair was a little longer I would try it. I love that big puff.
ReplyDeleteBEE-UTIFUL! lol...Seriously, loving this style & it's next on the list to try. My child is too young for school, & not going to pre-school, but this may be her Memorial day look, or attempted look, lol. I love it though b/c it's hip without looking too grown. Great job & thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWow. What a striking hair style. I love how you worked the parts/rows as you got closer to the front and side of her head. Do you envision exactly how the parts will work out before you start? Or do you just flow with it as you go along?
ReplyDeleteI so very much appreciate the step by step photos of how you do the layers.....excellent! Beautiful hair on a beautiful girl!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful child! Her hair is the biznizz!
ReplyDelete@ Family Viola - I pretty much just go with the flow. I always know what I want to do but as far as the parts go, I just create them as I go.
ReplyDeleteI love this look. I think I might give it a try tonight on my daughter!
ReplyDeleteYour little 1 is beautiful, and I love her hair. The flowers compleately give her an extra Cuteness to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazingly beautiful! I am going to have to try to do this one on my own head. Thanks for the inspiration, keep it coming.
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know when I do it.
I love this! This is going to be TK's style for her school pictures tomorrow!!
