Oh I've heard a ton! They include water being bad for the hair, how AA women should only wash 1-2x a month, that greasing the scalp will help it grow, oh boy, I'm having a brain fart at the moment lol
wow greasing your scalp don't grow you hair? smh i stilled believed that one :)lol I greased my daughter hair with joboa oil :) every other day... My grandmother told me we had to cut the ends of our hair every good friday and our hair will grow lol
Ohhh wow...uh...the not washing of the hair but 1-2x a month, like someone else said. AH man...I can't think of any more but so far, I've heard em ALL!! lol
Ooooh BLUE MAGIC GREASE, BABY LOTION AND PINK OIL MOISTURIZER will help your childs hair grown and more manangable. Washing the hair once or twice a month, greasing the scalp daily, putting weave and perming the hair will make it grow Ohhhh My I could go on but I really hate when someone puts a perm or put tight weave in a childs hair to so call make it grow.
*Cutting/shaving your baby's hair b4 one year old will make it come back kinky. *Not washing the hair will make it grow. *Sectioning the hair in boxes, greasing the sections, and making tight ponies (with rubber bands) all over the head will help the hair to grow faster. *Black hair does not absorb natural oils applied to the hair. So there is no point to put pure olive, coconut, or any other natural oil in "black" hair. Black ppl need to use GREASE or heavy pomades bc they were created for "black" hair.
My mom actually believes that if you don't straighten curly/kinky Black hair that it'll break off. In her own words "You know that letting it be too curly will make it break easier". And I'm thinking, so putting harsh chemicals in it will make it grow??? Some people and their "logic"....
Do not comb hair while wet. Dirt helps the hair grow. Perms grow hair. Mineral oil helps the hair grow. Greasing the scalp helps the hair grow. It's not meant for boys to have hair. Boys hair grows faster than girls. To have a child with long hair... They have to be biracial. If you see an african American child with long hair.. They have something in their background. The list goes on and on. I know some of these may not sound like myths but I know alot if you have heard of them.
this isn't a myth but i didn't know my natural hair was easier to manage wet. i thought i could only get a comb through it when it was pressed. That is the reason it has been either pressed or in braids for the last 18 years. I would blame my mother for not teaching me anything about my hair...but no one is perfect. I'm not going to dwell...I'm just glad I know now, because some people are much older than me and still don't know how to manage their natural hair. That ignorance leads to getting perms, weaves, wigs and using heat because we don't know any better way to keep the hair "manageable."
my mom tells me dirt makes your hair grow. sometimes she doesn't wash hers more than once a year. And she is crazy about pink oil moisturizer. Actually it seems to make the her hair really manageable. I use to use it but it never improved the health of my hair and it was always really oily and even with all the oil it felt brittle and dry.

Putting mayonnaise and egg on your hair will make it smooth. (why not just oil treatments?)
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law still tries to tell me that putting my daughter's 4a hair into tight braids will make it grow faster.

ReplyDeleteBraids have to be tighhhht to look good.
ReplyDeleteBlack hair doesn't grow..lol, that was proved wrong!
1. People saying that you have to have "good" hair and be "mixed" to have long hair...
ReplyDelete2. I was told pink oil hair lotion was the ONLY way to get "their" hair managable.
3. Greasing the scalp
4. Not washing like hardly at all!
5. Perming makes the hair grow!
Don't let pregnant people do your hair it makes it fall out....Why? Don't know...but I have heard it from several sources
ReplyDeleteI was told that if you cut or trim your hair on a full moon it would grow.
